Dr. Kusmaria calls for effective Private Partnership efforts for making agriculture profitable

Bhopal:Monday, June 15, 2009 :  Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria has stressed the need for private participation apart from government machinery's efforts for making agriculture profitable in Madhya Pradesh. Better results can be achieved through the coordination between both these agencies. Agriculture Development Minister Dr. Kusmaria was addressing a programme after signing of 13 MoUs with agriculture agencies at the Mantralaya here today. These MoUs have been signed under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA). Principal Secretary Agriculture Shri Pravesh Sharma and Director Agriculture Shri DN Sharma were also present on the occasion. The agencies with which MoUs were signed today include NICT, Satpura Vigyan Sabha, Mahatma Gandhi Pratishthhan, Samarpan, Access Development, BAIF, Srijan, Card, Newsid, Prakrati Bharti, KJ Education Society and Manthan.

Agriculture Development Minister Dr. Kusmaria said that a number of changes are being witnessed in the field of agriculture these days. Information of these changes should be conveyed to farmers. He said that the demand or organic cereals is increasing throughout the world. In view of this there is need to promote organic farming in the state in collaboration with private agencies within a set timeframe. He also stressed imparting training to women connected with farming.

Principal Secretary Agriculture Shri Pravesh Sharma said that Private Partnership in agriculture sector has yielded encouraging results in Madhya Pradesh. With this in view, 13 new MoUs have been signed. Shri Sharma informed that farmers' queries are being answered daily for 14 hours on toll-free telephone by the Kishan Call Centre at Bhopal. The Principal Secretary Agriculture informed that so far agriculture reform programmes to the tune of Rs 16 crore 60 lakh through 19 agriculture agencies have been finalised. Now, all the 313 development blocks have been covered under private participation in the state.

The NGOs with which MoUs were signed today gave details of their respective projects. Incharge of Mahila Chetna Manch Smt. Nirmala Buch threw light on the efforts being taken to increase women's participation in agriculture while Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Department gave details of MoUs.
